Your Alpine Summer in St. Anton am Arlberg
300 km of hiking trails, over 200 km of bike tracks, mountain lakes, alpine huts and one of the most stunning mountain landscapes in the Alps – and right in the middle of it all, our four Omaela Apartments.
St. Anton am Arlberg in summer is every bit as impressive as in winter. Just quieter, greener, and with a lot more space on the trails.
An alpine summer, honestly told: at 1,300 m the days are pleasantly warm rather than scorching, with a cool breeze more often than not — milder than the cities or the Med. And when it does get hot, the cool-down is never far: a dip in one of our mountain lakes, a shaded forest trail, or simply higher up where the air turns fresh. That’s the quiet appeal of a summer in the Alps.
The summer season at the Arlberg runs from June to October. With the free St. Anton Mobility Card, you'll have access to buses, guided hikes, a children's programme and more from your very first night. For those who want to go higher: the Premium Summer Card with daily cable car access, swimming pool and golf is available as an upgrade for 3, 5 or 7 days – bookable online or at the tourist office.
Hiking – from easy walks to alpine hut tours
We grew up at the Arlberg and we're still out in the mountains every week. What makes St. Anton special as a hiking destination: you start at 1,300 m and within minutes you're in high alpine terrain. From gentle lakeside walks in the Verwall valley to demanding hut-to-hut routes, there's something for everyone.
Our favourite hikes:
Verwall Loop – The classic: a circuit around the Verwall lake with a stop at the Wagner Hütte. Perfect for families. The "Sagenhaftes Verwall" adventure trail with interactive stations makes it great for kids too.
Leutkircher Hütte – An afternoon hike with panoramic views, rocky landscapes and, with a bit of luck, ibex sightings. About 2.5 hours from the Omaela. → Our story about this hike
Konstanzer Hütte – One of our favourite tours into the Moostal valley. Views of the remnant glaciers of the Verwall range.
Fritzhütte via Schnanner Klamm – First through the wild, legendary gorge, then steeply up to the Fritzhütte, perched like an eagle's nest above the valley. Sporty and spectacular.
Malfon Alm – A pleasant ascent to the alpine pasture, and for the ambitious, continue to the small mountain lake above. One of the quietest side valleys at the Arlberg.
Darmstädter Hütte – The big tour for experienced mountain hikers. Starting point for high alpine routes in the Verwall range.
Alpenrosenweg to the Rendl – Take the Rendlbahn up, follow the high trail at around 2,100 m (mid-June to mid-July the slopes glow with alpine roses) and descend via the Rendl Alpe. By (e-)bike it’s a fine loop the other way round: up to the Rendl Alpe, then the Alpenrosenweg — partly trail, demanding — up to the Rendl and back down through the Moostal, about 2–3 hours. The Rendlbahn runs on selected summer days.
Langer See in Schönverwall – One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the region. It's a longer hike, but the reward is worth every step.
Good to know: With the Mobility Card, you can join one free guided hike per stay. With the Premium Summer Card, all cable cars (Rendl, Galzig, Gampen, Kapall, Valluga) are included daily – saving you elevation and opening up entirely different routes.
The Arlberg Via Ferrata – a must for experienced climbers
If you have alpine climbing experience, don't miss the Arlberg Klettersteig (via ferrata). It's demanding (grade C/D), exposed, and offers views you won't forget in a hurry. Access is via the Kapall or Valluga cable car, and the route traverses the rock faces high above St. Anton.
Important: Only in stable weather and with proper equipment (via ferrata set, helmet, sturdy mountain boots). If in doubt, book a local mountain guide – they know every handhold.
Mountain biking & e-biking
Over 200 km of signposted bike trails make the Arlberg one of the best biking areas in Tyrol. From relaxed e-bike tours through the Stanzer valley to technical trails descending from the Rendl – the variety is enormous.
At the Omaela, we have a dedicated bike room with an e-bike charging station – you can store your bike securely and charge your battery overnight. E-bikes are available for hire at sports shops in St. Anton, and the Premium Summer Card includes a discount.
Tip for road cyclists: The Arlberg loop over the Arlberg Pass, Flexen Pass and back through the Lech valley is one of the finest day rides in the Eastern Alps.
Mountain lakes – the Arlberg's best-kept summer secret
What many people don't know: around St. Anton, some of Tyrol's most beautiful mountain lakes are waiting to be discovered. Crystal-clear water, surrounded by rock and alpine meadows, and usually you'll have them almost entirely to yourself.
Verwallsee – The easiest to reach, ideal for families
Langer See in Schönverwall – Remote and stunning, longer hike required
Mountain lake above Malfon Alm – Small, hidden and beautiful
On hot summer days (yes, they happen at the Arlberg!), a dip in the cold mountain water is the perfect contrast to your private sauna in the evening.
Our basecamp: the Omaela in summer
