Going on holiday sustainably? It's worth a try.

OmaEla looks after her descendants: So that the next generation can still enjoy the wonderful treasures of the Arlberg region, we would like to try to make a contribution.

Sustainable heating

For example with our heating: it is based on sustainable geothermal energy. To keep our guests cosy and warm even on bitterly cold winter nights, our heating pumps a cooling fluid into the four boreholes — more than 100 metres deep — beneath our house. Thanks to the constant above-zero temperatures down there, this produces steam. The steam is compressed and converted into heat. All that's needed is a little electricity for the heat pump, which we want to draw as soon as possible from a rooftop photovoltaic system.

Recycling & good coffee at the Omaela

We also make sustainable cotton pads for our guests from recycled fabric scraps. In the off-season there is enough time to sew them, and we are glad when they are used instead of disposable cosmetic wipes. Our cotton pads can be washed and reused at home for a long time.

We are meticulous about waste separation too: our Nespresso capsules, for instance, are collected separately and recycled. This new option from Nespresso was in fact the very reason we chose Nespresso. A pleasant side effect: delicious coffee, very easily prepared. The Nespresso capsules are already waiting for you, by the way, in your apartment

Cooking mindfully in the apartment with products from the Arlberg region

A good tip for sustainable, regional cuisine in the apartment: the Regiobox. Here, local farmers sell fresh milk, eggs (for the best breakfast egg), jam, honey, yoghurt and much more. Oma Ela finds the Arlen goulash from mEATus particularly tasty — with succulent meat from the highland cattle in our neighbourhood, here in St. Anton. Perfectly warming on cold evenings.

Travelling here sustainably by train

By the way, you can also reach us by train: since St. Anton am Arlberg is ideally connected to the network of the Austrian Federal Railways, guests travel to our winter-sports region especially easily, quickly and, above all, in an environmentally friendly way. St. Anton am Arlberg is both a Railjet and a Eurocity station and is therefore reachable internationally almost every hour.

Energy self-sufficient: St. Anton am Arlberg

When it comes to sustainability and e-mobility, opinions are famously divided. But we can offer our guests our e-charging station with a clear conscience — after all, we source the green electricity from hydropower plants in the region. St. Anton am Arlberg is, in fact, one of very few municipalities that can call itself completely "energy self-sufficient", of which we are very proud. Thanks to the company-owned Moosbach, Rosanna and Kartell hydropower plants, environmentally friendly electricity generation from 100% local hydropower is possible.
